Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Kohl's Department Stores Continue Partnership to Fight Breast Cancer
The Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and Kohl’s Department Stores are continuing their successful educational campaign to encourage women to open up the lines of communication on breast health. Kohl’s Conversationsfor the Cure™ delivers breast health messaging on a personal level in communities where it is needed most. In the last year, 331conversations were held and approximately 2,500 women were reached. The campaign is expanding this year to reach more women who live in outlying parts of the greater Milwaukee area, inspire them to get screened and increase the survival rate in Southeast Wisconsin.
The program encourages women in Southeast Wisconsin to get age appropriate breast health screenings, talk to others about the importance of breast self awareness, and take action with the ultimate goal of increasing survival rates. Conversations conveniently take place in easy-to-access locations, including schools, churches, businesses, libraries, city agencies, community centers, beauty shops and public housing complexes. “Our program is expanding this year to address a greater need – to reach more women who live outside the city of Milwaukee,” said Diana L. Drews, executive director of Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate. “Thanks to Kohl’s Department Stores’ support, we are able to not only increase awareness, but inspire women to take action through these personalconversations. We look forward to engaging even more women to get screened this year.”
The campaign will be supported by print, online and radio ads that feature strong headlines and powerful images that inspire women to take action and join the fight against breast cancer. In addition, a new interactive website will launch this year to increase engagement and encourage women to start a conversation through social media channels. The interactive website will allow users to instantaneously start conversations with friends via email and through social media networks.
Kohl’s support for Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure is an illustration of the company’s commitment to women’s health. Kohl’s is contributing $2 million over three years to the Komen Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate to help raise awareness about the importance of getting breast screenings and provide resources for Wisconsin women.
Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure will take place in communities in Southeast Wisconsin beginning in October. To learn more visit www.KohlsConversationsForTheCure.org.
