About 890 We Energies customers in West Allis, 600 in New Berlin and another 380 in Mequon, including Concordia University, are without power from a series of electrical pole fires, We Energies spokesman Barry McNulty said.
The power failure near Highway 100 and Oklahoma Ave. was initiated by We Energies to facilitate the repair, he said. The repair should be done by 6:45 p.m. The area without power is south of W. Montana Ave., north of W. Morgan Ave., and between S. 100th St. and S. 114th St.
In New Berlin, the power failure is near National Ave., Moorland Road and Coffee Road on the east side of the city, he said.
In Mequon, a utility pole at Port Washington Road and Eastbrook Drive caught fire and collapsed, breaking in half.
McNulty was unable to predict when power might be restored and said it will take crews some time to reset new poles and put wires back up. In the meantime, the utility is working to reroute power to the affected area.
